2005 Peking University Alumni (North America) Second Conferenc
Peking University has around 20,000 alumni in the United States. Representatives of Peking University Alumni Associations (PUAAs), a total of 13 delegates from different regions, together with official delegation from Peking University led by Vice President Wen Hai met for two days on December 3-4 at the Conference Center of John Hopkins University Shady Grove Campus.
The conference brought up-to-date information about education and research activities in Peking University and higher learning in China, and provided networking opportunities for the alumni in the United States as they integrate into the mainstream society and promote exchanges between the United States and China.
PUAA for the Greater Washington Area (PUAA-DC), teamed with the California-based Peking University Education Foundation (USA), hosts this conference. PUAA-DC, with nearly 400 members, is one of the most active community organizations in the nation’s capital area. Since its founding in 1993, PUAA-DC not only organized various recreational, social and educational programs for its members, but also sponsored major cultural and arts events promoting better understanding between the peoples of China and the Unites States. In recent years, the Governor of the State of Maryland twice granted the PUAA-DC the Outstanding Community Service Award.
Delegates Ms. Susan Lee and Ms. Joan Stern of Maryland House of Delegates highly praised PUAA-DC and welcomed the conference delegates at the opening ceremony on December 3. On December 4 at a reception held at the Chinese Embassy honoring the conference delegates, H.E. Ambassador Wenzhong Zhou remarked about the outstanding achievements of PUAA-DC and encouraged alumni to contribute more to the educational and cultural exchanges between China and the Unites States.
